Jafaria Alliance on Sunday gave strike call for Monday (today) in Karachi against Abbas Town blast that killed 47 people and injured over hundred others, while Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM) and other parties called for observing mourning day. Sindh government also announced to observe mourning day against the carnage in the province.
All markets, shopping centres, schools and other educational institutions will remain closed on Monday. Public transport will stay off the road, as transporters backed the strike call. MQM's Rabita Committee announced to observe a day of mourning on the deaths of innocent people in the devastating blast in Abbas Town area.
Ameer Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh Dr Miraj-ul-Huda Siddiqi condemned the blast and expressed grief and sorrow over the killings of innocent people in the blast.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister, Qaim Ali Shah, strongly condemned Abbas Town blast. He directed the Inspector General Police Sindh to conduct an immediate inquiry and arrest the perpetrators. He further directed that necessary steps be taken for bringing the law and order under control.
Qaim Ali Shah also directed the IGP Sindh and Commissioner Karachi to make arrangements for the rescue and relief of the affectees. He also directed the Sindh Health Secretary for arrangement of treatment of the injured.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, who was Karachi, suspended all his official engagements and remained in constant touch with law enforcement agencies and local administration to oversee relief and rescue operation in the wake of unfortunate bomb blast.
In this connection, the Prime Minister met Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and directed him to ensure that relief operations were redoubled; injured persons evacuated and provided medical treatment promptly.
