Members of the National Assembly from both sides of political aisle on Wednesday joined hands and targeted a specific anchorperson of a private T.V channel, terming him as blackmailer and passed a unanimous resolution against all those anchorpersons who telecast programmes to serve their personal agenda to degrade the Parliamentarians.
Even, the lawmakers vowed to boycott the programme of the anchorperson, who is affiliated with a private TV channel. They termed the particular anchorperson as "Bikao Maal" (ready for sale). However, they appreciated those anchorpersons and journalists who work independently with responsibility keeping professional ethics above petty personal gains.
All lawmakers belonging to opposition as well as treasury were on the same page against the particular anchorperson and drubbed him for passing 'derogatory remarks' against parliamentarians and even marring the sanctity of the supreme institution of the Parliament. Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza seemed so emotional and in a charged atmosphere she vowed to approach the courts to uphold the prestige and dignity of the Parliament.
The resolution, which was passed unanimously in the Lower House is as follows, "This House resolve that all those anchorpersons who are telecasting programmes against parliamentarians and other entities without verification of the facts, but for some personal agenda or for some ulterior motives or for some unlawful gains have been exposed for their non-professional conduct, this House strongly condemned such anchorpersons and demand from the owner of media houses to expel them forthwith besides other due action." No doubt there are also some black sheep in the journalist community, who write or telecast programme for their personal interests and benefits or under planted agenda.
Federal Minister for Education and Training Sheikh Waqas Akram who raised the issue regarding the particular anchorpersons said the guy was expelled from another TV channel and now he is telecasting a programme with the title of "Khara Sauch" with ulterior motives to level baseless allegations against the parliamentarians.
The opposition as well as treasury members fully supported the views of Waqas Akram thumping the desks. Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor also raised similar issue about a story published in a daily newspaper regarding Rs 36 million power bills outstanding against the MPs, saying that this is tantamount to degrade the parliamentarians. He demanded that the author of the story should apologise from the lawmakers. He also proposed opening of a training institute for journalists.
Abdul Qadar Baloch of PML-N supported the view point of his colleagues saying that anchorpersons take the liberty of using mean language against the politicians. He requested the members that they should avoid participating in such programmes. MQM lawmaker Asif Hasnain while supporting the views of other parliamentarians said no one should be maligned without any solid evidence. He said that a few anchor persons were involved in mudslinging and maligning politicians which was highly condemnable. Ejaz Ahmad Jakhrani while speaking on the issue said that he had sent legal notice to the anchor person from London.
