The traders and industrialists on Wednesday welcomed Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) decision to withdraw its call for indefinite strike. Earlier, the MQM called for an indefinite shutdown of business and trade as part of its 'peaceful protest' in Sindh especially in Karachi against the government's inaction to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of the recent bombing in Abbas Town.
They expressed that the country's exports were facing difficulties due to prevailing financial, industrial and energy crises as well as deteriorating law and order situation, which badly affected the industrial and trade activities. They said that strike was not the solution of prevailing problems, as with closure of industry, poverty rate would increase and daily wage workers would suffer irreparable loss.
President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Mohammad Haroon Agar said that Businessmen Group Chief Siraj Kasim Teli had appealed MQM Chief Altaf Hussain to withdraw the indefinite strike call in the best interest of the country. President, All Pakistan Industrial Alliance, Mian Zahid Hussain, Former Vice Presidents FPCCI, Khalid Tawab and Zubair Tufail also welcomed MQM's decision.
