Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar on Wednesday assured the National Assembly that the government was seriously considering lifting the ban on YouTube. Responding on a point-of-order raised by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Shazia Marri, the Defence Minister said that the government was considering restoring access to YouTube before the end of the government's tenure.
Pakistan had moved to block YouTube in September last year following violent protests in response to an anti-Islam video clip. Earlier, Shazia Mari urged the government to review its decision to block YouTube, saying that it was an effective source of research for scholars, besides a tool for the country's youth to upload their creative work by sharing it with the entire world.
