The Shia community, which lost hundreds of lives in targeted killings and bomb blasts over the past few years, has lost confidence in Rangers, police, judiciary and political parties, Chairman of Shia Qaumi Mahaz (SQM) Muhammad Ali Shah said at a press conference on the Wednesday.
Speaking at Karachi Press Club, he said: "We appeal to the army chief to conduct a surgical operation in selected areas of Karachi against terrorists of banned organisations and their militant wings." He was flanked by other office-bearers of the organisation including Maulana Haider Ali, Shabbar Zaidi, and Tauqeer Rizvi.
Referring to the bomb blast near Abbas Town on Sunday, he said that as many as 70 lives were lost in the explosion, adding that it also caused huge losses to property. According to him, two Shia men were killed by Rangers and police personnel after people were returning after burying the blast victims.
"Surprisingly, Rangers and police personnel 'disappeared' when the funeral procession was attacked by the same terrorists near Sohrab Goth. But, he said, they 'reappeared' near Ancholi and opened fire on 'innocent people' who had already been attacked by terrorists at Al Asif Square," he said.
Demanding immediate transfer or suspension of the DG Rangers and IG Sindh, he said that some officers in law-enforcement agencies were sheltering these terrorists. He claimed that the ruling party, which looted the country's wealth for the past five years, was targeting Shia people to "appease their foreign bosses" in the US and Saudi Arabia in the last few days of its government.
"Pakistan's enemies are trying to stage a clash between Shia and Sunni communities by perpetrating terrorist acts, but they will not succeed as both sects understand that their mutual rivalry will benefit foreign enemies of Islam and Pakistan," he said, adding that the killing of 18 Sunni Muslims in the blast near Abbas Town proved that terrorist elements were attacking both sects.
He announced that a peaceful strike would be observed in Karachi on Friday against the tragedy. A rally would be carried from Numaish to the Press Club which would be attended by representatives of Shia and Sunni organisations. He appealed to all political and religious parties, transporters and traders to keep their businesses closed till 6pm, observing solidarity with the families affected by the blast. The SQM chief called for taking prompt action against terrorist organisations and their masterminds, including Ahmed Ludhianwi, Malik Ishaq, Aurangzeb Farooqi and their supporters such as Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. He claimed that more than 80 criminals of these terrorist groups who had been convicted in various terrorism-related cases were waiting on death rows.
