Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Mian Iftikhar Hussein, Parliamentary Leader of ANP in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, appealed the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister of Pakistan and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting to immediately approve the TV Channel for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa pending with the Federal Government for the last four months as the provincial government has already allocated required funds and space for it.
He made this appeal, while addressing the grant-in-aid cheques distribution ceremony at Nishtar Hall, Peshawar on Wednesday. Besides Secretary Information and Culture Azmat Hanif Orakzai and Director Culture Pervez Sabit Khel and a large number of culture related people were also present on this occasion. The Minister on the spot handed over grant-in-aid cheques to 153 people of culture community.
It may be recalled that the incumbent provincial government has established a permanent fund for the welfare of the culture community with the seed money of Rs 200 million from which the culture related people are being helped from time to time. Mian Iftikhar regretted that after 18th Constitutional Amendment, non-granting of permission for establishment of own TV channel to the province is clear injustice and against the true spirit of 18th Constitutional Amendment. He added that he himself contacted the President, Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting but no action has been taken on it so far. If Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa TV is approved today, he could start its live-broadcasting within three days, he announced.
The Minister continued, despite meagre resources, the provincial government is doing its utmost for the welfare of its culture community. He said that the honoraria given to the culture related people are nothing before their work and art but it is the recognition of their work. He added that they are wilfully encouraging their artists so as to revive our fast diminishing arts.
The Culture Minister called upon the artists to be proved of their profession as it is the source of their income. He reminded that the nations having no respect for their artists could not make progress nor get respectable place in the comity of nations.
