The Sindh metropolis was paralysed on Wednesday afternoon after a panic attack following the end of a 72-hour deadline given by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to nab culprits involved in the bombing near Abbas Town. All commercial and civic activities were suspended within a couple of hours after unidentified armed men took to the streets and resorted to heavy gunfire.
After the outbreak of a chaotic situation, Karachiities rushed to markets in a bid to buy essential kitchen items and fuel stations, but all petrol pumps, shops, roadside kiosks and restaurants across the city shut down. Similarly, public transport vehicles disappeared from roads, creating difficulties for commuters. The entire city wore a deserted look as tension gripped as school, colleges and universities were closed down and all exams were postponed. Meanwhile, Private Schools Management Association, Karachi Transport Itehad and Karachi Tajir Itehad supported the MQM's call to hold protest in Sindh, especially Karachi, against the blast near Abbas Town.
