Security-featured number plates: ICT likely to sign accord with German company
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration is likely to sign an agreement with a German company in a few days for issuance of security-featured number plates aimed at checking vehicles with fake numbers in use by terrorists as well as carjackers in the city.
"The ICT administration and a German (3M) Company is likely to sign an agreement which will enable the city administration to issue security-featured number plates for vehicles", a senior official told Business Recorder. He said that presently the ICT Excise and Taxation Office (ETO) issues over 200 ordinary vehicle number plates daily, which have no security features creating serious problems for the law enforcement agencies; and it is difficult to differentiate between the number plates issued by ETO and fake number plates.
The officials said that under the agreement the company will provide 200 number plates on daily basis to ETO office and it will have specific security features like secret serial number and water mark, proper size, beautiful shape and quality. The company would issue number plates of different sizes including small, medium and large. He said that the new number plates would have security feature in the shape of security threads that could be easily verified day and night. The marks on these number plates can not be removed by chemical or physical means, he added.
