The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has directed all Model Customs Collectorates (MCCs) to launch a vigorous campaign to widely publicise features of amnesty scheme for legalisation of non-duty paid smuggled vehicles to encourage voluntary compliance.
In this regard, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued instructions to the Collectors of Customs here on Thursday. According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), in terms of SRO 172(1)/2013 dated 05.03.2013, smuggled or non-duty paid vehicles having non tampered chassis or engine numbers are allowed release against payment of duty/taxes and redemption fine at the rate of 1 percent of the payable duty/taxes. This concession is aimed at encouraging the regularisation of smuggled vehicles plying in the country on payment of duty/taxes and the fine.
In order to ensure the success of this scheme, the Collectorates are directed to launch a vigorous campaign to widely publicise its features so as to encourage voluntary compliance. The collectorates may take necessary measures like placement of appropriate staff and set up of Facilitation Centres/ Counters etc at appropriate locations so as to ensure realisation of duty/taxes and redemption fine within the prescribed timeline provided in the said SRO. On completion of Customs related formalities delivery order (DO) duly signed by the officer of Customs, shall be generated through automated system maintained by M/s Pral.
Necessary measures may also be taken to educate those willing to surrender their vehicles in order to avail and pay duty/taxes/redemption fine under this scheme. In case of lack of clarity in relation thereto, the matter may be referred to the Board for requisite clarification, the FBR added.
