The coalition partners of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and opposition is likely to agree on the name of Abbas Khan, a former chief of provincial police to head the interim set-up for the upcoming general elections in the province.
In an informal chat with media men here in his residence the PPP, provincial president, Anwar Saifullah Khan said that several names including former chief secretaries, police chiefs, judges and some political workers of the province have been reviewed for the slot.
He said that the appointment of retired civil servant and or police chief will be better option than judges and politicians. He said that the names of retired chief secretaries including Khalid Aziz, Azam Khan, Abdullah Sahib and Shakeel Durrani have been reviewed. Similarly, he said the names of former provincial chiefs including Abbas Khan and Syed Masood Shah have been discussed.
Furthermore, he said that opposition leader in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Akram Khan Durrani has also given some names including a political worker. However, he ruled out the appointment of a retired military officer, which has been opposed by the PML-N.
Later, formally talking to media on the occasion of the joining of Major Liaquat Ali Gilani (Retd) of PML-N and Libas Khan of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) into PPP fold Anwar Saifullah Khan said the matter would be decided in next two or three days. He announced that they are recommending the name of Major Liaquat Ali Gilani (Retd) as candidate from NA-6, Nowshera II, saying he will prove a strong candidate for the party.
The PPP provincial chief said that PPP is the largest political party both at national and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa levels. He said that the joining of the large number of political activists of different political parties had further turned it into an invincible political force. He said that the people will vote PPP on the basis of its remarkable five-year performance.
Regarding distribution of party ticket for upcoming general elections, he said it will be awarded in consultations with district cabinet. He said for each constituency three names will be given as covering candidates. He said that for the resolution of the objections on awarding ticket, the number of members of parliamentary committee has been increased. He said that the issuance of party tickets will ultimately helped resolve differences amongst the party workers. However, he could not rule taking disciplinary action out against the violators of the party discipline.
In response to a question regarding possible seat adjustment with other political parties, he said the party has no shortage of potential candidates and formal decision in this regard will be taken after the distribution of party tickets. He said that instead of large-scale the party will prefer small scale seat adjustments.
