The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro arranged a "Child Health Symposium" with the aim to "Prevent Disease, Promote Health" on 9th March 2013 at Jamshoro campus.
Eminent Child specialists and experts of related fields from all over the country delivered their presentations on the theme of the Symposium "Guidelines to Child Health" Professor Abdul Ghafar Billoo presented the guidelines on the Newborn survival and Health; Professor Tarique Bhutta emphasised on EPI implementation, Professor Raza Balouch delivered his experience for the Management of Dengue Fever in Children, Professor Iqbal Memon shared his views about the management of Persistent Diarrhoea, Professor Tahir Shamsi spoke on Thallasemia free Pakistan, Professor Salma Shaikh presented the guidelines regarding the Non EPI Vaccines, Professor Syed Jamal Raza discussed on Short Stature, Professor Akbar Nizamani shared his views on Newborn, Infants and young child feeding, Dr Asif Asalam, country Head of UNICEF briefed regarding the roll of UNICEF on the subject.
While addressing the inaugural session the Vice Chancellor LUMHS Professor Mashoor Alam Shah expressed that the unique feature of paediatrics, as contrasted with other subspecialties, is its primary focus and dedication to the prevention of disease. With the onset of summers come water-borne diseases. Gastro-enteritis, Jaundice, Typhoid Fever, Cholera and Diarrhoea are some very common water-borne diseases in summers and rainy seasons. To be in the pink of health, it is important to take necessary precautions against these diseases.
Earlier, Professor Akbar Nizamani, Chairman Symposium organising committee in his welcome speech said that the Department of Paediatrics LUMHS has a tradition of arranging scientific symposia frequently with participation of WHO, UNICEF& MNCH Programme Sindh, where eminent Paediatricians and doctors from all over the country discuss the essential issues of Child Health.
