Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Government increased the budget of Science and Information Technology (S&IT) by 200 percent besides launching new projects in last five years with an objective to promote this important sector in the province.
Addressing a ceremony held in connections with the distribution of Research and Development Efforts Award under the auspices of the Directorate of Science and Technology, the Minister said they have the potential to achieve new heights of progress and prosperity in the comity of nations by promoting Science and IT education in the country.
The provincial Minister said present elected government supported Science and IT education through introduction of modern technology at school and college levels, adding information technology is the need of the present Century.
They need to take full advantages of the facilities provided by the government to the students in schools and colleges.
He said the ANP led government, despite financial constraints, made it sure that modern education and computers reach every child of the province on priority basis. To achieve this objective, he said, a Laptop scheme has been launched by KP Government to encourage talented students and attract youth towards IT.
He said it is important that our new generation gets useful and productive science and IT education at par with technologically advanced countries.
He claimed Science and IT sector was overlooked in the past and no significant effort was made for its promotion. However, he said the present elected Government has introduced revolutionary measures by establishing a network of IT institutes and computer laboratories in schools and colleges to generate employment opportunities, to reduce poverty and to give further impetus to the process of development. The Minister said R&D Efforts Award would help encourage all the stakeholders to excel in their respective fields. Secretary Science and Information Technology, Ahmed Hassan, Director Science and Technology Javed Abbas Bangash and Director IT Bilal Jabbar were also present on the occasion.
