At least seven people including a noted social activist and Director Orangi Pilot project, Dr Perveen Rehman, were killed in different areas of the city here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, Dr Rehman was shot dead near Abdullah College in the limits of Pirabad police station.
Police said the victim was targeted when she was on the way to home from work. She received multiple bullet shots on her upper torso and succumbed to her injures on the way to hospital. Later, her body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities.
Police said the culprits used 9mm pistol for her murder. She was unmarried and living with her mother in Gulistan-e-Johar area. Police said that Perveen's driver in his statement said that two unidentified masked armed riders fired multiple shots on her when they were near Abdullah College. Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad took notice of the murder and directed the police to submit report over the murder within two days.
In another incident, unidentified armed men threw a bullet-riddled body of a man near Mustafa Masjid in the limits of Kharadar police station. The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while his body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for autopsy and later moved to Edhi morgue.
In another incident, a drug peddler identified as Noor-ul-Islam, 35, son of Jafar Ali, was gunned down near Darul Uloom Korangi. According to police, the victim was a drug peddler and was nominated in several criminal cases. Police suspected that he might have been murdered by his associates.
In yet another incident, the body of a 14-year-old boy was recovered from Civil Lines area. Police said the motive behind the murder of Hassan, 14, son of Musa, was yet to be ascertained. The victim, who was an Afghani, was the resident of Sultanabad and was a scavenger.
A bullet-riddled body of a man identified as Abdul Hameed, 27, son of Aziz, was recovered from his residence in Old Haji Camp area. Police said the body was found from a house located at Street No 10, Old Haji Camp. Police said the statements of his family members suggested that he had committed suicide. An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the facts behind his death.
Another body of a man was found from an abandoned plot located in the jurisdiction of Joharabad police station. SHO Nadir Shah said the body was recovered from a plot in F.B area. He suspected that the victim, who was a drug-addict, might have died due to overdose. He said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained.
Another bullet-riddled body was recovered from Shah Abdul Latif Bhatti road in the limits of Kalri police station. Police said the victim was identified as Abid Baloch son of Jameel Baloch. He was resident of Lyari, Nayabad area. They said the deceased had affiliation with Lyari gangsters. No case was registered till filing of this report.
