Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry Thursday took over as Foreign Office's new spokesman, as his predecessor Moazzam Ahmad Khan has been posted as Pakistan Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) in the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, a member of the Foreign Service of Pakistan with 31 years of bilateral and multilateral experience, is currently serving as Additional Foreign Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs looking after affairs relating to United Nations and other international organisations, Economic Co-ordination, and Disarmament Affairs.
Served as Ambassador of Pakistan to the Netherlands (2009-2012), he represented Pakistan in the Hague based international organisations, including OPCW, besides conducting public diplomacy in co-operation with Pakistani community to bring the people of Pakistan and the Netherlands closer. He also authored a book "Pakistan mirrored to Dutch eyes", which is published by Sangemeel publications.
He had been actively associated with the peace process with India and also served as Director General for South Asia (2007-2009). He represented Pakistan in Saarc (South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation) and also led Pakistan side and chaired several meetings of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) as Director General in-charge for OIC.
He represented Pakistan in the United Nations for over six years. As Pakistan's Deputy Permanent Representative and earlier as Counsellor, he participated in inter-governmental negotiations in the UN, NAM, G-77, and other forums on several issues of interest to Pakistan. He had also served as Political Counsellor in Pakistan Embassy in Washington (1999-2000). According to Foreign Office sources, his predecessor Moazzam Ahmad Khan will be leaving for New York in few days to join his new assignment as Pakistan Deputy Permanent Representative in the UN headquarters.
