World Kidney Day-2013 marked here on Thursday like in other parts of the country and rest of the world with a renewed pledge to continue efforts for creation of a healthy society by raising awareness among public about harmful effects of diseases. To mark the day, awareness seminars and other gatherings were held in which speakers highlighted different aspects of kidney disease.
This year, theme of World Kidney Day is "Kidney for Life--Stop Kidney Attack". World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of kidneys, reducing the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated health problems world-wide.
The day is marked by joint initiative of International Society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundations. Motions on this occasion are a sign of its deep belief in creating and spreading awareness regarding chronic renal diseases which are common, silent and dangerous but easy to detect and treat at early stages. A free medical screening camp was established in Medical Out Patient Department at Sharif Medical City Hospital Lahore. More than 500 patients consulted specialist doctors of nephrology and urology. They were examined free of cost for weight, blood pressure and blood sugar.
