Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that burning of houses of Christian brethren by anti-social elements in Joseph Colony is an inhuman and reprehensible act, which has damaged the image of the country at international level. He said that Punjab government would not spare the culprits involved in the incident.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a high-level meeting to review the pace of rehabilitation work of the affected persons of Badamibagh incident, here on Thursday. Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senator Kamran Michael, Provincial Minister for Education Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police Punjab, Secretaries Home and Law, Additional IG Special Branch and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.
Shahbaz said that the Punjab government had decided to observe 'Tolerance Day' on Friday (today) to create religious harmony, peace and brotherhood among Muslims and the followers of other religions. He said that the construction and repair work of the burnt houses and Churches was continuing expeditiously, while handing over of repaired houses to the affected persons would be initiated from Friday. The Chief Minister directed the police authorities to immediately arrest all culprits, nominated in the FIR. He further directed that availability of medicines in relief camps should be ensured.
