Federal ministers, ministers of state, special assistants to the prime minister and advisors to the prime minister would be required to return all official assets and belongings including official vehicles to the government within 15 days of relinquishing their charge, a staffer of Federal Minister told Business Recorder.
They can retain the official accommodation for the same numbers of days namely 15 days so in effect the ministers' enclave should be a ghost compound on the 1st of April, he added. Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has reportedly started the process of shifting from the PM House to his personal residence in F-8 Capital though he is entitled to stay at the PM House till April 1, informed sources told this correspondent.
Interestingly foreign minister Ms Hina Rabbani Khar is the longest occupant of the official residence in the ministers' enclave since she worked with four consecutive prime ministers namely Zafarullah Jamali, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Shaukat Aziz and Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Today (Saturday) is the last day of the National Assembly and many parliamentarians have also started packing with the objective of vacating their official residences. Parliamentarians are required to vacate their official residences in parliamentarian lodges not later than May 31, 2103 after the end of five parliamentary years, sources said.
The sources said it was decided in a meeting of the House and Library Committee of Parliament that all parliamentarians should leave parliamentary lodges no later than May 31, 2013. The committee had representation from all the political parties in parliament and was headed by Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Faisal Kareem Kundi. The decision was unanimous, sources maintained. It was further decided in the meeting that in future it would be the prerogative of the Deputy Speaker National Assembly to allot the official residences of parliamentarians in the parliamentary lodges.
