A writ petition was filed on Friday in the Supreme Court against the top leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), accusing them of organising what the petitioner termed "a vulgar cultural show". The petition was filed by Syed Mehmood Akhter Naqvi under Article 62, 63 and 37 of the Constitution. PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Secretary-General Mushaid Hussain have been cited as respondents.
The petitioner requested the court to impose a life time ban on the respondents, barring them from contesting general elections, besides disallowing them from holding any public office and government posts. The petitioner also requested the court to issue directives in this regard to the Election Commission (ECP). In the petition, Naqvi stated that the respondents, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Mushahid Hussain Sayed, had personally attended the cultural show, which was organised under the banner of PML-Q and a private TV channel had its video recording.
