One of the central figures of the Lyari gang war, Arshad Papu, 35, his brother Yasir Arafat and three of his accomplices were killed in a shootout in the Lyari area in the limits of Kalakot police station. Police confirmed the killing of Arshad Papu and his aides. Police officials said that they had so far recovered two of the bodies.
A large number people took to the streets after the gangsters were killed and blocked all roads leading to the Brohi Chowk, police also faced difficulties to get access to the point where bodies were recovered. Source said that the bodies also bore torture marks.
"We have recovered bodies of two of the gangsters, but the bodies of Arshad Papu, son of Lal Mohammad, his brother Yasir Arfat and Shera Pathan, have not yet been recovered," SHO Tassawur Hussain said.
Arshad Pappu and Yasir Arafat used to live in Jehanabad. "Right now, we are unable to comment on the incident...police are still investigating the issue," he said.
According to the SHO of Kalakot police station, Arshad Pappu and his colleagues were killed after they attacked their rivals in Afshani Gali late on Saturday night.
Four others were later identified as Shera Pathan, Yasir Arafat, Khalid and Nazar Mohammad. "Bodies of Arshad Papu, Shera Pathan and Yasir Arfat went missing after they were killed," said SHO Tassawar Hussain. However, he said that bodies of Khalid, 17 or 18, a resident of Moach Goth, and Nazar Mohammad, 22 or 23, resident of Raxer Lane, were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK).
Arshad Papu was the sons of a notorious gangster Haji Lalu. Papu was arrested in 2007, but was released because of lack of evidence. Last year, he was acquitted in more than 50 cases. Pappu, Arafat and Pathan were proclaimed offenders and wanted by police for numerous counts of murder, assaults, drug-peddling, extortion and kidnappings for ransom.
Pappu carried a head money of Rs 2 million. Police has lodged FIR number 21/2013 under Section 302/34 of the PPC.
