The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to remove all objections over non-implementation of an apex court verdict in the Workers' Party case. A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar while hearing the non-implementation of the Supreme Court's verdict in the Workers' Party Judgement of June 8, 2012 said that judgement should be implemented in letter and spirit.
Bilal Hussain Manto, the counsel for the petitioner, raised serious reservations over the non-implementation of the court's 2012 judgement. He stated that the measures taken by the ECP were insufficient, which did not fully implement the apex court's verdict. Munir Paracha, the counsel for ECP, apprised the court regarding the steps taken in this regard and stated that the commission was bound to implement court's judgement and that it had already taken various steps for the full implementation of judgement.
The Chief Justice asked him to submit a detailed statement about the steps taken by the ECP after June 2012 judgement. Terming the petitioner's apprehensions genuine, the court gave him two weeks to complete his objections point-wise and adjourned the hearing of case till then.
