The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted one week's time to former secretary establishment, Ismail Qureshi, to get pre-arrest bail. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed resumed the hearing of the multi-billion Hajj Corruption scam case.
Waseem Sajjad, the counsel for Ismail Qureshi, apprised the court that he had no confidence over the Investigation Officer (IO) Hussain Asghar and requested the court to appoint any other senior IO. The court partly accepted his plea and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appoint Additional Director General to look into the matter himself.
Sajjad argued that as no recovery could be made from his client so the court could direct the FIA that it should not arrest his client. Sajjad also assured the court that his client would fully cooperate with the investigation team. The court gave seven days to the former secretary establishment as a pre-arrest bail and adjourned the case for two weeks.
