Deputy Convenor of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Dr Farooq Sattar has said that the ongoing spree of targeted killing of citizens including MQM workers is a conspiracy to push the country towards civil war. This he said while addressing a press conference at Nine Zero here on Wednesday. He was flanked by members of co-ordination committee. Farooq Sattar called for evolving anti-terrorism policy at national level to uproot terrorism from the country.
He said that the entire country particularly Karachi was in grip of terrorism, where innocent people, political leaders and workers, Ulema, LEAs officials were being targeted at regular interval. "Terrorists have also started targeting MQM workers for the past few days. A bomb blast occurred on 1st January after a public meeting of the MQM at Jinnah Ground wherein several workers and sympathisers were killed and injured. MPA Manzar Imam of the MQM was gunned down on 17th January. A bomb blast in Khurramabad area of Landhi resulted in the death of two MQM workers and injuring of several other people," he recalled. He termed such incidents an attempt to restrict the political activities of MQM.
He said that the criminal activities of the Lyari gangsters were also on the rise and they demanded heavy amount of money as extortion from industrialists, traders, transporters and other people and on refusal shot them dead brutally. He appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari, PM Raja Pervez Ashraf, CoAS General Ashfaque Pervez Kayani and Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the killings of MQM workers, Ulema, educationalists, doctors and innocent people and bring the killers to justice.
