As many as 75 graduates were conferred BDS degrees at the 16th Convocation of Fatima Jinnah Dental College (FJDC) here at a local hotel on Friday. Overall 16 gold medals, 12 shields and 114 distinctions were awarded in various subjects at the Convocation Ceremony.
Dr Ammar Hussain Pabany was judged the best graduate and received a cash prize of Rs 35,000, best graduate shield and eight gold medals for achieving highest marks in each subject. Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan, the Chief Guest, felicitated the graduating students and advised them to serve the humanity. "Don't forget those who are deprived of basic health facilities," he told the students.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi Dr Mohammad Qaiser lauded the role played by FJDC, one of the oldest private medical colleges, in training medical professionals. He said: "You have to ... serve the people without (any) discrimination and monetary consideration," Dr Qaiser told the graduating students. "There is no shortcut to success...you have to face challenges courageously," he advised the students.
Earlier Dr Baqar Askary, the CEO and Head of the Institution introduced the Chief guest Abdul Haseeb Khan and lauded his services in the health sector. Dr Syed Hussain Askery, FJDC's Director Academics and Administration, and others also spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile, celebrations marked FJDC's completion of 20 years.
