Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) on Friday withdrew its writ petition filed in Supreme Court, challenging the Balochistan High Court's (BHC) verdict against appointment of Maulana Wasay as opposition leader. A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Tasaduq Hussain Jilani, disposed of the case after the JUI-F withdrew its petition. Justice Jilani remarked that it was a welcome development as the issue had been resolved amicably.
A division bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) had suspended an earlier notification by Speaker Balochistan Assembly Matiullah Agha regarding the appointment of Maulana Wasay of the JUI-F as opposition leader and had restored Nawabzada Tariq Magsi as the opposition leader in the provincial assembly.
