Former President Pervez Musharraf might be very upbeat about his election prospects in the general elections, but legal experts say that Musharraf would be facing an uphill task, due to his past baggage, to clear his candidature from the concerned Returning Officers of the constituencies.
Former dictator Musharraf returned to Pakistan on 24th March after ending his four and a half years of self-imposed exile and declared that he would contest the National Assembly seats in Karachi and Chitral. He said that his old ally since 1999 MQM would support him in the general elections. Political analysts say that Musharraf is facing a spate of problems and petitions in the superior courts from judges he detained in their houses in November 2007. Musharraf stood convicted on the basis of this declaration, only a sentence is needed to be passed against him. On the basis of this verdict, any body could raise objection to the candidature of Musharraf at the time of filing of nomination papers.
