Governor's intervention sought to remove encroachments on Korangi Industrial area
Chairman PTA's Law and Order Committee of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA), Gulzar Firoz has sough the intervention of Governor Sindh to direct local administration to carry out an operation to remove the massive encroachments on the Korangi Industrial area's roads.
He has invited the immediate attention of the authorities concerned to the encroachment of Tannery Zone approach roads, roads 5000 and 7000 where daily long-haul oil tankers of Attock Refinery are parked and wait for their turn to get delivery of oil. At some point, tankers are parked in double rows on these roads along with a third row on the other side of the roads leaving hardly any space for the flow of the two-way traffic, which can result in head-on , fatal accidents especially in the peak hours of morning and evening.
The tankers are thus causing a serious traffic problem for the people working in The Tannery Zone, doctors and students of Jinnah Medical College and Hospital and the residents of Sharifabad.
The Department of Traffic Police was repeatedly approached which helped to keep the roads clear of the tankers for subsequent a few days but later the tankers returned with the same problem which the Traffic police has completely failed to resolve. The refinery, a huge organisation, is ignoring requests for cooperation, due to its influence and persists with the practice. He appealed to all the concerned high-ups for enforcement of traffic rules and discipline on said roads to rescue law-abiding people from potential incidents.
