A twelve-member delegation of the Higher Education Commission, National Curriculum Revision Committee for Pakistan Studies, called on the Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Dr Muhammad Rasul. The committee was led by Director Pakistan Study Centre Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam while Deputy Director HEC Nasir Shah also accompanied the delegation.
Improvement in curricula of Pakistan Studies, on the lines to develop love for the country, and spirit of patriotism among students must be kept as priority while designing updated courses, said Vice Chancellor UoP Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan in his address. He said we as Pakistanis' must be proud of, where we are today as individuals, and must give respect to all countrymen, and the ideas they believe in.
The Vice Chancellor termed the role of Pakistan Studies as integral in shaping behaviour of youth towards mutual harmony and integrity. He added unity among our ranks is need of time as enemy of the soil is trying to create unrest by employing brutal acts of terrorism, ethnic divides and sectarian violence. Dr Jan appreciated the visit of distinguished Professors from across Pakistan to University of Peshawar for exchange of their ideas and experiences. He emphasised the need for including local heroes especially those involved in Pakistan Independence movement in Pakistan Studies courses, for inspiration of the youth, so that they could follow in their footsteps.
Deputy Director HEC Nasir Shah said that Government of Pakistan has approved Higher Education Commission as the competent authority for the supervision of curricula beyond class XII. He added HEC is inclined to maintain the standards of education while keeping in view the nation's social, ideological and economic needs. He informed that the National Curriculum Revision Committee revisits all courses taught in higher education institutions every three years for a possible improvement in them. The Director Pakistan Study Centre University of Balochistan Yousuf Rodeni, Dr Arif Mahmood Associate Professor National Institute of Pakistan Studies Quaid e Azam University Islamabad was among the visiting delegates.
