A school principal was killed on Saturday while seven students were injured in an armed attack on a school in the limits of Ittehad Town police station. According to police officials, unidentified gunmen stormed into the Nation Secondary School in Baldia Town after lobbing a cracker. After barging into the school premises, the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire.
As a resultant, the school's principal, Abdur Rasheed, 46, was killed while seven students were injured. Police officials said the gunmen attacked during the school's annual examination. Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers arrived at the spot.
Citing eyewitnesses statement, police officials said that there were as many as six attackers in Shalwar-Kameez, adding that the deceased, who was shot at least six times, was a senior worker of Awami National Party (ANP) and hailed from Swat. SSP West Asif Ijaz Bajwa said that the school's owner had not filed any extortion complaint and the motive behind the said attack was yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) claimed that the locally-made 'ball bomb' contained at least 250 grams of explosive material.
