Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Najam Sethi has said that improving law and order situation in the province is top most priority and every possible step will be taken for ensuring peaceful holding of elections. He said that peaceful atmosphere will be ensured for exercising right of franchise by the voters in general elections.
He vowed that caretaker government would utilise all energies for making general elections free, fair and transparent. He reiterated that holding of general elections in a peaceful and impartial manner is a national responsibility which will be fulfilled at all costs.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting regarding security and law and order at Chief Minister's Secretariat Saturday. Secretary Home, Inspector General Police, Additional IGs, Commissioner Lahore Division, DCO Lahore, CCPO Lahore, DIGs besides other concerned officials attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Caretaker Chief Minister said that caretaker government does not consider the challenge of security and law and order impossible and is fully prepared to cope with the security challenge. He directed the authorities concerned to provide complete security to rallies, processions and public meetings during election campaign.
Najam Sethi said that protection of life and property of the citizens is the responsibility of police, therefore, it should utilise all its capabilities for curbing crimes and providing peaceful atmosphere to the people. He directed that ban on wall chalking should be implemented strictly and the posters and banners creating hatred and provocation removed immediately throughout the province. Inspector General Police gave a briefing about law and order situation in the province on this occasion.
