During the past 65 years, more than 1,000 Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leaders have been elected to legislatures at federal, provincial and local levels and no case of corruption has ever been filed against them, Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munawar Hasan said on Sunday.
He was addressing a large gathering of 'Umeed-e-Pakistan Youth Convention organised by Shabab-e-Milli workers at M A Jinnah Road. He claimed that JI leaders had "always worked for the welfare of the people, winning their hearts and minds" by their efforts. Urging people to vote for JI in the upcoming general elections, Munawar Hasan said that JI was the only party which "can change the destiny of the country and its people". "We are working for the deprived, the needy and the poor and also for those who had been affected by military operations," he said. Appreciating the youth, he said that they were capable of differentiating between right and wrong.
Urging the Shabab-e-Milli activists to foster greater public awareness, he said that they should mobilise people to "vote for change".
People, he said, should reject elements in the upcoming elections who pushed the country into the war on terrorism, adding that the Kashmir issue would not be resolve unless people capable of deflecting US and India's dictations come into power.
The JI Chief said that plunderers of national wealth were "jumping ships" before elections to repeat their past practices.
He warned PTI's chairman Imran Khan to beware of those who quit other parties, joined PTI "and became president". Hasan said the media should expose those who had plundered the national wealth and violated Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
Rejecting delimitation of just 11 constituencies, Munawar Hasan said that it was a farce to befool the people of the city.
Meanwhile, the JI chief appreciated Taliban's struggle in Afghanistan, and said that Taliban had clearly defeated Nato forces in Afghanistan. Earlier, President of Shabab-e-Milli, Pakistan, Ateequr Rehman, JI's Karachi chief Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, Naib Ameer of Sindh Asadullah Bhutto, President Sindh Shabab-e-Milli Azeem Baloch, Nazim Islami Jamiat-e-Talba (IJT) Pakistan Zubair Safdar, and others also spoke on the occasion.
