The Farmer Organisations (FOs) established by the Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) in various Area Water Boards (AWBs) have successfully completed their targets of repair and maintenance of canal outlets in irrigation reform areas. The repair and maintenance of outlets will help improving water supply to tail-ends as well as curtailing of water losses.
This was revealed in a PIDA press release received here Sunday. General Manager PIDA, Mian Maqbool Ahmad in a meeting attended by other technocrats reviewed in detail the repair and maintenance process of canal outlets and expressed its satisfaction over the pace of development works. The meeting observed that this development work will help the farmers by providing them sufficient water for irrigation purposes.
During the meeting, the representatives of Area Water Boards informed that 2043 outlets in AWB Lower Chenab Canal (East) Circle Faisalabad, 907 outlets in AWB Bahawalnagar Canal Circle, 1016 outlets in AWB Lower Chenab Canal (West) Circle Faisalabad and 37 outlets in AWB Lower Bari Doab Canal Circle Sahiwal have been successfully repaired by concerned FOs. The meeting was also told that Farmer Organisations have been given participation in irrigation management in the Area Water Board of Derajaat Canal Circle, D G Khan.
