The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended amnesty scheme up to April 6 this year for legalising non-duty paid smuggled vehicles in view of the 'healthy response' at the national level. Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that the Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has approved an FBR proposal to extend the scheme's deadline by six days.
So far, 34,000 non-duty paid smuggled vehicles have been regularised by customs field formations. A revenue of Rs 10 billion has been deposited by owners of such vehicles till March 31, it is learnt. The scheme was due to expire on March 31. All provisions of the SRO172(1)/2013 would be applicable on the smuggled vehicles during the extended period up to April 6.
The complete scheme has been extended including vehicles seized by the customs department as well as vehicles to be legalised as per SRO.172(1)/2013, sources explained. Strict enforcement action would be taken against the owners of such vehicles after the expiry of this scheme. According to SRO172(1)/2013, the Federal Government has directed that smuggled or non-duty paid motor vehicles, having non-tampered engine or chassis numbers, which have been seized or voluntarily presented to Customs on or before the 31st March, 2013, shall be allowed release on payment of redemption fine along with duty and taxes.
