Karachi case hearing: Supreme Court orders elimination of no-go areas in seven days

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to eliminate all no-go areas of the city in seven days. The court has ordered authorities concerned to submit fresh and separate reports mentioning the actions taken by the law enforcers to curb the sustained violence in Karachi. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry headed a five-member bench to hear the case at Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice said that Lyari had become a crime hub. The Supreme Court rejected the Rangers and police officers' report regarding no-go areas, and directed the heads of the Police and Rangers to work together and eliminate the no-go areas, adding the life and property of Karachi's residents should be protected.
Rangers confessed that there were some no-go areas in the city. At the outset of the hearing, IG Sindh Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch and Chief Secretary Sindh turned up and submitted their reports. The report stated that lack of town planning and growing population were main reasons behind crimes and violence in the city since criminals sought refuge in narrow alleys.
At which the CJP observed that "why the crime ratio is low in Delhi and Kolkata despite the fact that they are densely populated cities." The CJP expressed his displeasure over the Police report and described it as a bid to hoodwink the apex court. He said the SHOs, DSPs and SSPs were directed to file their separate reports but they didn't, instead, the officials followed an identical format for filing the report.
The CJP said "no-go areas in city are sole reason behind crimes and the objective to eradicate these spots is to ensure safety of people's lives and properties." "IG should travel without his convoy, he would know that no-go areas exist or not," Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said, adding that media and lawyers could also be sent to confirm the police claim on no-go areas. He said the IDPs who arrived in the city from other provinces "are our brethren." The bench comprises Justice Jawwad S Khwaja, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.
