There was no let up in hours-long load-shedding in Punjab as electricity shortfall persisted at 3,300 megawatt on Thursday, Wapda spokesman told Business Recorder. He said that hydel, IPPs, and Gencos produced 8,570 MW electricity against the demand of 11,870 MW, leaving a gap of 3,300 MW, which was met by prolonged load-shedding in the country.
He said that hydel power units contributed 1,780 MW electricity, Independent Power Producers 5,050 MW and Gencos 1,740 MW to the national grid station and 620 MW was exported to KESC. The spokesman noted that the electricity demand dropped to 11,870 MW against Wednesday's demand of 12,100 due to a mild weather in the upper regions of the country. However, there was a drop of about 300 MW in the production of hydel power units from 2110 to 1780 MW. He said hydel power generation will improve later this month with greater outflows downstream Tarbela and Mangla dams.
