Indeed it is heartening to know that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has accepted our basic suggestion as a Pakistani citizen to add new columns in voters list to prevent fake voting and to maintain the fairness and transparency of the 2013 election. The ECP has added two columns for that purpose.
Using your good office and platform - Business Recorder Newspaper, we would like to request ECP further to kindly add three new columns instead of two. The two columns will have voter's picture, thumb impression while the proposed third additional (new) column shall be blank and at the time of vote casting, voter will use the third column for his or her thumb impression.
By virtue of that, the polling officer will not need to check and verify each voter's detail. But the votes on which polling agents have objections ie disputed votes, votes book no., code no. can be noted down and there will be no need to suspend voting process. Polling Officer may or may not hold that voter's CNIC.
After the completion of polling all objectionable votes and their thumb impressions will be checked by electronic machines. If the polling staff/machine found a fake vote then with the co-operation of NADRA's database, legal action can be taken against that person based on the bio-data and other relevant details captured through the database. Obviously the credit for fair elections will go to Election Commission of Pakistan, NADRA, and the free media which act as a vocal, vibrant and active fourth pillar of the democracy.
