The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 150 cases whereas 232 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 30th March 2013 to Friday 5th April. The backlog remains 18,923. The backlog in the apex Court on 29th March was 18,841 cases. As 232 new cases were instituted during the period from Saturday 30th March to Friday 5th April, the progressive total of pending cases on 5th April came to 19,073 cases.
Out of these, 150 cases were disposed of during the period from Monday 1st April to Friday 5th April. The backlog on 5th April remains 18,923 cases. Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registry Lahore to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog. CJP and the Judges of SC remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog. The Judges continued to hear the cases with the aim to minimise the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
