The Karachi Port handled 127,562 tonnes of cargo comprising 72,393 tonnes of import cargo and 55,169 tonnes of export cargo including 6,182 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 72,393 tonnes comprised 38,337 tonnes of containerised cargo; 30,565 tonnes of general cargo; 2,492 tonnes of bulk cargo and 999 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 55,169 tonnes comprised 29,863 tonnes of containerised cargo; 73 tonnes of general cargo; 11,488 tonnes of bulk cargo and 13,745 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,182 containers comprising 3,062 containers import and 3,120 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 794 of 20's and 975 of 40's loaded while 226 of 20's and 46 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 738 of 20's and 563 of 40's loaded containers while 378 of 20's and 439 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are five ships with one container ship, one general cargo ship, one seeds carrier and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There are six vessels with two container ships, two general cargo ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There are two ships namely Rio Blanco and Ocean Force with one container ship and one molasses carrier respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. There are four vessels viz Wan Hai-601, STX Patraikos, Cape Flores and Sark with three container ships and one crude oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
The total export cargo of 3,907 tonnes includes 1,369 tonnes of rice and 2,538 tonnes of containerised cargo. One ship namely CV City of Beijing with containers sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours, while another ship namely MT Al-Soor-II with diesel oil sailed out to sea on Saturday morning.
A total number of ten vessels viz CV City of Beijing, CV MSC Lavina, CV Cape Flores, MT Kuksan, MV Styliani-Z, MV Reecon Emre, MT Al-Soor-II, MT Gan Triumph, MV Hai Jun 7001 and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, wheat, rice, diesel oil, palm oil, dredger and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as three ships namely OOCL San Francisco, Citron and Phu Tai-19 with containers, palm oil and rice are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. No vessels are expected to take berths on Saturday. One ship namely CV OOCL San Francisco with containers due to arrive on Saturday as per arrival schedule.
