Nomination papers of former President Pervez Mus-harraf to contest the upcoming general elections from NA-32 Chitral, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were accepted while his candidature for two National Assembly seats, one in Islamabad and the other in Karachi, were rejected by the respective returning officers.
In Chitral, the nomination papers of the former military ruler were accepted by the returning officer after overruling the objections raised by different parties including Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf and lawyers.
However, Musharraf was barred from contesting general elections on NA-250, Karachi as returning officer Syed Ikramur Rehman rejected his nomination papers.
Jamaat-e-Islami's candidate former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan Advocate and a lawyer Akhtiyar Ali Channa Advocate had filed objections over his candidature.
They argued that Musharraf had been declared usurper in Sindh High Court Bar Association's (SHCBA) case by the apex court, hence he could not stand in the elections. After hearing argument of both the sides, the returning officer rejected his nomination papers.
Meanwhile, the former military ruler's nomination papers were also rejected for NA-48, Islamabad. Different parties had filed objections over his candidature on the grounds that he had abrogated the constitution and detained serving judges of Supreme Court and high courts. They argued that besides, there were many criminal cases pending against Musharraf, hence his nomination papers should be rejected. After hearing the parties, the returning officer rejected the nomination papers.
It is to be mentioned here that General Musharraf nomination papers have already been rejected for a National Assembly's constituency in Kasur, Punjab.
