The Department of Archaeology, Hazara University Mansehra plans to start a unique MA programme in the country for the first time by introducing Heritage Management studies with support from School of Archaeology and Ancient History, University of Leicester UK. This programme is funded by the British Council Islamabad under the Transnational Education Programme.
Dr Abdul Samad, head of Department of Archaeology, Hazara University, Mansehra explained that "there is no match of our unique cultural heritage in the whole world but there are limited steps taken so far to safeguard and promote our cultural diversity and this course is designed to meet strict international standard, which eventually will be leading to the capacity building of our heritage custodian". Thanks to Professor Muhammad Rafiqu Mughal, a Professor from Harvard University who helped in developing the core modules for this programme and volunteering his services for this cause, he added.
Dr Samad said the course has been designed, as per international standard and will be launched by Hazara University this September. He further informed that a formal training would be provided to faculty members at the University of Leicester by the Dr Ruth Young through British Council Transnational Programme, while the exchange visit of expertise in the relevant field from the Hazara University and University of Leicester UK will be carried out under the British Council programme.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr Syed Sakhawat Shah, the University Vice Chancellor Hazara University praised the British Council contribution for initiation a Heritage Management programme through Transnational Education.
He expressed that Hazara University with the help of British Council is playing vibrant and leading role in the country in the field of Archaeology and Heritage Management and preservation.
