A special training programme is underway for the police personnel for the security of the polling stations as well as the polling material. This was announced by a spokesman of the Sindh police on Tuesday. He said that a review meeting in this regard was held at the Central Police Office (CPO). Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, Shahid Nadeem Baloch, was in the chair.
A police statement said that the meeting decided that in order to overcome the shortage of the police personnel, the services of the Police Qaumi Razakar as well as the police officers and men retired during the last three years would be acquired after fitness clearance.
They would be deployed for three days at the polling stations and that the recommendations in this regard would soon be forwarded to the IGP Sindh.
It was also informed that a special training programme is underway in collaboration with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the UNDP for apprising the police personnel of the security matters regarding the polling stations as well as the polling material.
As many as 40 master trainers are imparting training to 980 police officers and men of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Larkana and Sukkur Police Ranges.
At the meeting, the IGP Sindh directed that Election 2013 Security Plan be given final shape keeping in view the requirements of the sensitive polling stations so that the election contingency plan could be foolproof.
