The legal fraternity on Tuesday boycotted courts' proceedings and also took out a rally to protest the government's inaction against the culprits behind Tahir Plaza incident.
It may be mentioned here that on April 9, 2008, terrorists had set an office of a lawyer Altaf Abbasi advocate at Tahir Plaza on fire, which resulted in the death of the lawyer and his five clients including a woman. Another lawyer, Shehryar Sherry was also killed by terrorists in a co-ordinated attack on the same day. The legal fraternity observe strike every year to mark the tragic incident and to press the government for arrest of the culprits.
Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), Karachi Bar Association (KBA), Malir Bar Association (MBA) and District Bar Association (DBA) organised general body sessions, demanding of the government to arrest the culprits behind the incident. They also demanded compensation to the families of the deceased lawyers.
They warned the government and the law enforcing departments of filing a petition against them in the Sindh High Court if they failed to arrest the killers.
Earlier, lawyers staged a protest rally on M A Jinnah Road to remember the incident. President SHCBA, Mustafa Lakhani, President KBA, Naeem Qureshi, General Secretary Kashif Hanif, President MBA, Muhammad Ashraf Samo and General Secretary Latfullah attend the meetings.
