Chung Joon Yang, Chairman and CEO of POSCO, to be named "Steelmaker of the Year" at AISTech 2013 - The Iron & Steel Technology Conference and Exposition, managed by the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST).
Chung is recognised as a visionary for the global steel industry for his knowledge of steel operations, dedication to safety, awareness to secure raw materials, enthusiasm to incorporate new technologies, foresight to expand POSCO's foreign presence, and prudent strategy to promote mutual growth with steel-consuming industries. Chung Joon Yang is elected Chairman and CEO of POSCO since February 2009.
AISTech 2013 will take place from May 6-9 in Pittsburgh, Pa, USA, with technical sessions and several keynote presentations by today's business leaders. The Technology Conference will showcase more than 400 presentations on aspects of iron and steel manufacturing technology. Highlights include the latest environmental technologies throughout the iron-and steelmaking process; advan-cements in rolling and coating technologies; safe work practices and procedures for projects, production and maintenance; cutting-edge research and advancements in the processing, production and application of steel; the latest in automation and control systems; and discussions on efficient material movement both within the facility and to the customer.
POSCO Limited is the world's 4th largest steel maker by market value, Asia's most profitable and the most competitive steel maker in the whole world. POSCO has been the bedrock of Korea's industrial development over the past 45 years. It produces approximately 39 million tons of steel products each year. To add to its success stories, POSCO is determined in building a successful partnership with Al-Tuwairqi to benefit from its presence in Pakistan and fully focused to make TSML of Pakistan a world class steel making unit through possible expansion of initially set DRI plant using forward and backward integration.
The phase-1 of TSML Direct Reduced Iron Plant has come into commercial production with a total cost, (including working capital) of $342 million of which, POSCO provided in the shape of equity US $16 million. Director Projects-TSML, Zaigham Adil Rizvi and his team has congratulated Chung and the entire team of POSCO in South Korea on this achievement.-PR
