DIG Traffic Abdul Khalique Shaikh has advised Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati) to constitute a committee to co-ordinate with the traffic police. He said the committee should point out the areas and pockets of traffic blocking causing obstacle in traffic flow.
Speaking at a meeting of Kati, he said traffic police would soon initiate campaign against traffic violations in Korangi Industrial Area besides removing encroachments on roads, and assured that illegal parking of National Refinery's vehicles on Tannery Road and S M Farooq Road and other roads would be vacant soon. He further pointed out that he had introduced similar traffic reforms in various areas including Sadder, Civil Lines, etc and eased up traffic flow despite shortage of police force.
Kati Chairman Mohammad Zubair Chhaya has earnestly demanded to remove National Refinery's tankers that were encroaching both the sides of Tannery Road and causing immense traffic jams during peak hours. He said it was complained that the refinery's tankers were parked illegally in connivance with traffic police.
He also pointed out that frequent traffic jams were seen on the way to EBM Causeway due to the same reason, and said the Causeway was very important dual carriageway constructed with the cost of Rs 120 million and used as alternative of the Main Korangi Road. He said if the traffic rules were enforced by the police, the commuters would themselves abide by the rules.
Former Chairman Gulzar Firoz and Shaikh Manzar Alam also pointed out that encroachments on side roads and roadside restaurants were causing immense traffic hazards which should be removed immediately. The Kati Chairman has announced that Amjadullah Khan and Niaz Ahmed would be the members of Kati-Traffic Police Liaison Committee to check the traffic violations.
