Caretaker Finance Minister Sindh, Shabbar Zaidi has informed members of Site Association of Industry (SAI) that he has approved a summary of Rs 400 million for infrastructure development of Site industrial area and it was forwarded to Chief Minister Sindh for his consideration and approval.
Speaking at a meeting of SAI, he said that infrastructure condition in Site industrial area was extremely poor and if those conditions prevailed, industries might not be able to operate. He said provincial government had no shortage of funds. However, he expressed that Site had to go for self sustain mode because provincial government could not finance big projects.
Referring to forthcoming elections, he said it was caretaker government priority to hold election in a peaceful atmosphere and go home by May 16th honourably. Zaidi said that law and order was a serious issue and it could not be overcome by traditional methods, adding that latest techniques should be adopted including stalling CCTV cameras to overcome law and order issue.
Replying to a question, he said there should be a separate allocation in Annual Development Programme of provincial government for law and order. Caretaker Minister for Industries and Commerce, Khalid Tawab said the former Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah approved a summary for infrastructure development of site industrial area and it was forwarded to Works Department. However work could not be initiated due to unknown reasons, he added.
He expressed hope that caretaker chief minister would approve the summary of Rs 400 million in next 48 hours and work would be initiated on road carpeting of the industrial area soon. He said that industrial department would complete all legal requirements and issue tender as per rules before initiating infrastructure development work. He said that Site Limited was in very terrible shape and advised industrialists to send suggestion to privatise Site Limited in next few days. Referring to garbage lifting in site area, he that Site Limited had around 200 sweepers but they were not managing them properly.
He suggested that Site Association should take-up those workers and initiated garbage lifting work. Replying to a question about property tax in industrial area, he said that efforts would be made to give property tax to Site Association for carrying out infrastructure development and garbage lifting. Tawab said the government was considering to regularise all illegal construction made by industrial in last many years.
Chairman SAI, Dr Arshad Vohra said the association had already completed proposal for privatisation of Site Limited and it would be provided to caretaker government. Industrialists present at the meeting expressed concern over resurging incidents of criminal activities, increasing incident of looting cash, mobile phones, and motorbikes in broad daylight, water shortage and poor condition of infrastructure in Site industrial area.
