Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa former justice Tariq Pervez Khan has urged upon the young and novice doctors to perform their professional duties with an aim to serve the ailing humanity irrespective of creed, cost, colour and language, adding that destroying or taking a human life was the worst of all evils and saving a human life the best of all goods.
He expressed those views while addressing the third convocation of Gandhara University as chief guest on Saturday. The CM gave away degree and medals amongst the graduates. A total of 180 graduates in various fields including MBBS, BDS, MPH and Pharmacy were awarded degree in the convocation.
Congratulating the degree-receiving medical graduates and their parents, the Chief Minister said the profession of medicine was a very noble one on the ground that people of this field dedicate their lives to save the lives of other fellow beings. He urged upon parents and teachers to infuse the same concept of life into the minds of their children and students.
The chief minister said it was a unique day in the live of the new graduates who had stepped out into practical life full of hardships and challenges, adding that challenges always bring opportunities and with every new opportunity comes the chance to excel. The basic responsibility of the state was to provide quality medical education and high standard healthcare facilities to the public, while primary responsibility and aim of every young doctor was to provide best services to the suffering humanity, maintained the chief minister.
Talking about the services rendered by Gandhara University in the field of medicine, the CM said that initially the university started as a medical college, and within a short span of only 10 years it grown up to a full fledge university providing quality education in all sections and cadres of health sector.
Vice Chancellor, Gandhara University, Professor Rasheed Ahmad Khan was awarded with Surgeon Mohammad Kabir life time achievement Award while Dr Ismail Qamar and Dr Tariq Khan were crowned with Gandhara Excellence Awards. In his welcome address Professor Dr Shaheed Iqbal eulogised the efforts of the founder of Gandhara Medical College, Professor Surgeon Mohammad Kabir Khan in the establishment of a state of the art medical institution to provide quality education to the people of the province. New graduates Aftab Khan, Rabia Irfan, Mudassir Khan, Nazish Masood, Sadaf Naz, Nadia Abid, Mohammad Abbas, Saira Bano, Sofia Kabir, Fawad Fayaz, Tilaya Hidayat, Saeed Shoaib and Gul Sanga received gold medals.
