The Lawyers Foundation for Justice (LFJ) has filed a petition before the Lahore High Court seeking the implementation on Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution on candidates contesting the general elections. The petitioner stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan was under constitutional obligation as directed in Article 218 to conduct polls honestly, justly, fairly and in accordance with law.
The petitioner, therefore, requested that the provisions of the Constitution relating to the qualification of a candidate "must be enforced so that fake degree holders, tax evaders and defaulters could not...enter the assemblies again". The petition, filed through A K Dogar, also seeks to set aside all appointments, promotions/transfers and plots distributed by former federal and Punjab governments during the last eight weeks of their terms.
