A full bench of Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within 10 days in a petition challenging the dismissal of appeals by an election tribunal against the acceptance Nawaz Sharif's nomination papers for National Assembly seat from NA-120.
The bench issued a notice to the ECP in this regard. The petitioner, Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey, contended that Nawaz Sharif had concealed his assets from the Election Commission at the time of filing nomination papers. He also alleged that Nawaz Sharif was involved in money laundering. He said that objections had been raised before the returning officer, but he had dismissed them "without applying judicial mind". He stated that while deciding the appeal against the RO's order, the election tribunal had decided all appeals against Nawaz Sharif in a "pre-determined manner". He, therefore, requested the court to restrain Nawaz Sharif from participating in the polls after setting aside the election tribunal's order.
