A full bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday expressed dismay over non-compliance of its order and directed heads of excise and taxation, SNGPL, PTCL, Wasa and other utility departments to provide record of defaulter candidates in electronic form to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) within 24 hours.
The bench adjourned further hearing till Thursday (today) on a set of petitions seeking implementation of Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution in the upcoming general election. Earlier, a representative of the ECP told the bench that the required record had not yet been provided by the departments concerned despite the clear court orders.
During the course of hearing, petitioner's counsel pointed out that defaulter of banks and utility bills could not contest election unless cleared their dues one-year (loans) and six-month (bills) respectively before holding of the election. He said those cleared their dues before or after filing nomination papers were not eligible to participate in the elections.
