Former MPA and provincial minister for transport Akhtar Jadoon of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) along with his supporters on Wednesday staged a protest in front of Bilawal House, the residence of President Asif Ali Zardari who is also the party's co-chairman, over not awarding him a party ticket for contesting general elections.
During the protest, protestors chanted slogans against the PPP leadership and called for awarding the party ticket for PS-89 to Akhtar Jadoon. They also breached barricades in a bid to enter the 'red zone' near the Bilawal House. Protestors also resorted to aerial firing and displayed latest weapons without any fear of legal repercussions. However, police and Rangers played the role of silent spectators over the situation.
Protestors believed that the leadership of PPP Sindh had completely ignored the party's ideological workers and awarded tickets on the basis of nepotism. They warned that if a ticket was not awarded to Jadoon, they would stage a sit-in front of Bilawal House on Thursday (today) till the day of elections.
PPP has already awarded the ticket for the PS-89 seat to Dilawar Shah, instead of Akhtar Jadoon and PS-90 ticket to Liaquat Aaskani, instead of Nadeem Bhutto. Both PPP contenders are alleged to have been referred by key leaders of the defunct People's Amn Committee (PAC).
