Caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh, former Justice Zahid Kurban Alavi had a meeting with Dr Paul Rutter, Secretary General of International Monitoring Board (GPEI) held at CM House here regarding measures to eradicate polio from Sindh and make a Pakistan polio free country.
The meeting was also attended by Chairman Pakistan Polio Plus Committee, Aziz Memon, National Co-ordinator of PM Monitoring Cell, Dr Altaf Bosan, Sindh Health Secretary, Dr Suresh Kumar, Special Health Secretary, Taha Farooqi, Project Director of EPI Sindh, Mazhar Khamisani, Provincial Technical Focal Person for Polio Eradication Sindh, Dr Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Polio team leader WHO, Dr Salah Tumsah, Dr Shaukat (Unicef) and others. The caretaker CM said that it is our responsibility to make concerted efforts for eradication of polio from society and regarding this all possible steps and support will be provided.
Caretaker Sindh CM assured the participants that provincial government will fully support and cooperate and will provide necessary security and complete protection to the teams engaged in performing duties and administering polio drops to children. The meeting was informed that in Gadap (Karachi) where still there are cases of polio. It was informed that hygienic conditions are very bad, due to open drains and garbage dumps. He said that if there is a good sanitation system and clean water is to be provided to the peoples better results could be achieved.
Secretary General (GPEI) informed the CM that during the polio campaign maximum facilities and security to be provided so that field worker can perform their duties without any harassment. The meeting was further informed that due to migration of people from one place to other, the germination of polio is increased so keeping in view this on exit points the facility of Polio vaccination to child is provided so that a large number of child could be benefited.
Chief Minister assured that facilities will be provided to persons performing duties and engaged in administrating polio drops to children, while I.G Police Sindh and D.G Rangers Sindh will be directed to provide necessary security and protection to polio teams. He added that deputy commissioners are controlling authorities of respective districts for polio campaign and they should monitor at district level monitoring cell and upto union council level polio campaign monitoring cells properly maintained.-PR
